Mike soon began speaking in local churches and eventually ended up speaking
mainly in prisons. "You can hear a pin drop when I get to the death of Christ on
the cross. Those men are so hungry for something that brings them hope!"

In early 2006 Smoky Mountain Audio Visual founder, G. Michael Smith was
diagnosed with a brain tumor called Acoustic Neuroma. It's a very rare tumor that
grows on the nerve that connects your ear to your brain.
Acoustic Neuroma is a non-cancerous tumor that grows very slowly over time.
Although the tumor itself is non-cancerous, it is still life threatening. Left alone it
will grow to the point that the brain will shut down resulting in death. The ironic
part about an Acoustic Neuroma is that the removal of the tumor causes more
harm than the tumor itself.
Given the manner in which the tumor grows, the removal of it most often causes
facial paralysis, loss of balance, loss of the ability to hear and in the most extreme
cases... loss of the ability to speak, chew and walk , stroke and death. Mike was
looking at a very grim future given all the potential consequences of this non
cancerous tumor.
Having prior knowledge of this potential outcome, Mike began to write. After

ability to take our minds /
focus off of where it should be, our relationship with Jesus Christ,
and put it on things that make no difference! Like how much
money we make. Or what kind of car he or she drives! Or what kind
of clothes we wear! My personal favorite is "What kind of church
do you go to?"
Armed with a new sense of determination and clarity, Mike started
FOCUS Ministries. The word FOCUS actually stands for Focus On
Christ United States. His main goal was to speak to people about
Satan's tools and his ultimate goal... To destroy US because he
knows he cannot destroy God!

doctors found that the tumor had
grown around the audible nerve
and the balance nerve.
In removing the tumor those
nerves had to be snipped leaving
Mike totally deaf on his right side.
It also left him with some balance
issues to contend with.
Upon waking up and being able to
speak with the doctors, Mike was
told that given the size and
position of the tumor that he was
lucky to be able to speak, chew or
swallow.
The doctors told him that he was
one of the luckiest men that they
had ever seen.
